Join us in the Streets!
January 20, 2012 marks the two-year anniversary of the infamous Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission decision, where the Supreme Court held that corporations are “people” with campaign finance rights to “free speech.” While the Court bends over backwards to give extra, undeserved privileges to corporations, our communities are being stripped our most basic rights. In protest of this gross contradiction; PWA joins Occupy Wall Street West’s call for a mass day of action.
Just Wages & Transportation for the 99%
On J20, POWER will join the Progressive Workers Alliance and take to the streets to highlight two struggles of our communities against the 1%.
- End Wage Theft: We will target corporate employers who are guilty of Wage Theft—a failure to comply with minimum wage laws and respect basic workers’ rights–by joining workers who are fighting for thousands of dollars in unpaid wages
- Transit for the 99%: We will join the fight led by young people in San Francisco to have free access to public transportation. With the rising cost of fares and virtual elimination of school bus services, young people are criminalized when they don’t have bus fare and need to get school or other services.

JOIN US!
We call on other low-wage workers to join us on January 20th during the day for the mass day of action, and help to strengthen the global movement for racial, gender and economic justice.
